Ingraham Applied Zoopharmacognosy
We have no way of knowing what sort of trauma some of the cats we help have been through, before they come to us. Even those that come from loving homes can suffer stress and anxiety from being parted, through no fault of their own, from their beloved owners.
We are very fortunate that Kim Bartlett, one of our trustees is a practitioner of Ingraham Applied Zoopharmacognosy.
IAZ was founded by Caroline Ingraham. Caroline has always had an enormous concern for the ethical treatment of animals and their welfare. Caroline has dedicated the last three decades to researching and observing how animals heal themselves; knowledge gained directly from the animals themselves.
IAZ enables the same self-medicative behaviour in domesticated or captive animals by offering plant extracts that would contain the same or similar constituents, to those found in an animal’s natural environment. The practice encourages and allows an animal to make choices and to guide its own health, by being offered plant extracts that would contain the same, or similar constituents to those found in its natural environment.
All our rescues beneift from IAZ sessions with. We really believe this approach used in conjunction with traditional veterinary care, offers our cats the best possible chance to readjust giving them means to cope with the adoption process.
IAZ in action
Its unusual to be able to work outside like this but this stray obviously knew we were trying to help. These video clips b were shot over a 1 hour period and show a stray cat working with some plant extracts that were offered.
IAZ isn't about just putting some dried herbs on a towel, its about reading signs and understanding behaviour to be able to identify what an animal is demonstrating it needs.
